Preparation prior to gastroscopy

Before having a gastroscopy, you want to stay without food for at least 6 hours. You are allowed to drink water until 2 hours before your examination.

If you use anti-coagulants, please mention this to Valérie already on taking your appointment.

Always bring with you : your eID, insurance documents, three stickers of the Belgian ‘Mutuelle’ if applicable, your medication list, every other document if needed. Look here for the list of what you bring to us on the day of your examination..

After your examination

Very often you received a sedative during the examination. You therefore are not supposed to participate to traffic. This means that you need to be accompanied by a person. Practically, please let somebody drop you off before your exam and pick you again up after the exam. In general, you stay no longer than 90 minutes door to door.
